AI Season 7: Top 16 - Girls This is a public story

late again! but i hate to skip an episode, especially when i actually almost enjoyed the girls last night.why, whyyyyy are people still singing whitney songs, seven seasons in? what is it that makes people think, "oh, i can pull it off even though pretty much no one else ever has?" argh.Asia'h Epperson - especially this song. it should be banned from ever being done on this show again. having said that, i think she did a better job on it than anyone else ever has. it suited her little cheerleader energy. but the song just does no one any favors. i think she'll be alright, but she needs to make some smarter choices going forward.Kady Malloy - ah, kady. another swell song choice. let's see... simon keeps telling you that you have no sparkle when you sing... it's 80's week, when the cheesy pop abounds... what song do you decide to do next? oh, obviously - a melodramatic queen song. *shakes head* but here's the thing - she picked up sympathy votes last week because simon ripped her. then she was in the bottom three - and admitted that she should have gone home before alaina. then she had the most hilarious "embarrassing moment" story. plus, we're due for a head-scratching advance. she should go home, but i don't think she will.Amanda Overmyer - amanda's back! "the only chick in the world that can burn down a pool." LOL. this was easily her best performance yet. it was pretty solid vocally, but what stood out for me was that she looked really comfortable on the stage. she was loose and she engaged the crowd. she looked great, too. it's good to see that she listened to paula's comments on the make-up overkill, because she definitely had less on this week. but i do agree with simon, she needs to crack a smile once in a while when they're talking to her. she doesn't have to be asia'h, but geez.Carly Smithson - ok, what is with the high-waisted button-up pants? ew. this was probably my favorite performance of hers, though. there was a little bit of shading in between the enormous notes. i don't love the song, though. even when i've seen celine do it live, it hasn't moved me. and i really wish she would stop staring at the ceiling when she sings. it's starting to drive me nuts. maybe she'll stop doing it when she gets on the big stage, where she will be next week.Kristy Lee Cook - full disclosure - "faithfully" is probably my second-favorite love song of all time, so she was starting behind the eight-ball for me. i do think it has potential as a country song, but not the way she sang it. i don't know what the judges were hearing, but the whole thing sounded off-key to me. and what was with the goofy little "yeeeeaaahh" that she aimed at the guys at the end? not to mention that she's "okay with" coming in tenth. sorry kristy, but i think you're going to have to be okay with coming in fourteenth.Ramiele Malubay - who is dressing this girl? ugh. this is another song i love, and i thought she was decent. but i wasn't, as simon said, jumping out of my chair. i don't think she's in any trouble this week, but she has got to have a "moment" sometime soon. she has the voice, but she needs to find the song.i loved the "peanut gallery", but the judges are out. of. control. good grief.Brooke White - this was pretty cool. i can't shake the feeling that i've heard someone (maybe even pat benatar herself) do that arrangement of the song before, but maybe i'm just imagining that. my only gripe is that it never... went anywhere. i agree with her decision not to bring the band in, but it was just missing something. regardless, she's safe for now.Syesha Mercado - oh yay, more whitney. at least this one hasn't been done that often. i thought it was okay. i just don't know what to do with her - she hits the notes, but i have no desire to listen to her. i think she's in trouble tonight, because i don't know anyone who's really all that enamored with her.so my guess is that syesha and kristy are going, even though i think it should be kady and kristy. but we'll see. and oh, yay, blake lewis! ;-)
