SNAKE SKIN IN THE BACKYARD · 10/27/2009
craig had taken the dogs out for their "business", and came in anouncing to me he saw a snakeskin outside in the backyard. i asked if he took a picture, he hadnt thought it nessessary (he doesnt get it, i need the pics to have something to blog about), and grabbed the camera and took a picture. i asked if he could recognize the snake by the skin, and he wasnt sure. but added: "maybe its a rat snake and it came and ate the rat." he also brought it inside...looked really, very generic as far as markings go, but was over a foot in length. my thoughts then went too 2 areas: 1)- how long does it take a snake too shed their skin, and how long had this snake been doing it undesterbed by my dogs AND cats? 2)- if this thing could eat an animal the size of that rat we saw in the backyard..it could have swallowed my BONO up! what a thought! put him out for a few minutes and BAM, hes consumed by some wandering slithering sepent..and wed have never known. craig also mentioned that it may be held up in the garage. from what we can tell its no threat....but then the markings arnt very good.... i just hope it went off to someone elses yard, left mine alone. just what i need when i go out there to organize is to meet a snake face-to-face!
