mixes and mp3s techie idea · 11/19/2009
something totally unrelated to new orleans:I want to distribute mixtapes/mixCDs in the most efficient way possible. I have a library of about 25 mixes I've made, which take up one to three discs apiece, dating back to high school. each one summed up my life at the time it was made. they have a certain charm and artistry to them beyond a typical mix; I even crossfaded and used sound effects to tell stories.I used to burn discs upon discs and make these big books of CDs for people, which they would then inevitably rip into mp3s anyway for their players at least half of the time. it's totally inefficient, and takes a long time, and takes up space, and is prone to bad burns, etc etc. and the mp3s you wind up with will almost always hiccup between tracks. and it destroys the continuity to have these songs in your library that have edges missing, or sound effects, or edges of other songs stuck on them.so I thought what might be cool is if I could make a DVDR with all the mixes in super-highest-quality mp3 format, one mp3 per "side". I've listened to my mixes as one long mp3 before, and it's not too hard to navigate around with the little slider on an mp3 player.but what about people who want to burn it to CD, with track index marks so they can navigate? cause using the scan forward/reverse buttons to get around on a CD is no good at all.so here's my dream version:you take a DVDR and stick it in a computer - PC or Mac, doesn't matter. you see a list (even if it's just a plain text file) of mixes and their descriptions. this can include images if any, notes, related photos, etc.you click on the mix you want to burn, and it says "insert a blank CD". it burns the disc using the uber-high quality mp3 as source and includes the track markings where they belong.or, if you don't want to burn a disc, you just copy the mp3 file itself into your music library and you're good to go.cool, right? but I don't know of any way to distribute a disc that burns other discs. especially for mac and pc - I can make two different versions of this if I have to.I guess I could include ISO disc images with every mp3, but that means at least four or five DVDRs instead of one, and it means people would need to know how to burn from a disc image.any thoughts?what happens when you click on an ISO disc image on a mac?
