I love rediscovering BNL every once in a while...each time I start to listen again the songs mean new things and it's fun to feel like I can understand the jokes and ironies better.Lots of work to do this week...turned in my physical geology lab final this morning, english paper due wednesday, physical geology final wednesday, international politics final thursday, logic final friday, and american history final paper due monday. Death upon me.This sunday I worked at Whirligigs and it was great to be back, I'm excited about working there over the holidays and the rest of winter break. Good money and good times.My job tutoring second graders finished on Friday, and it was bittersweet. I won't miss how stressful the job was, but I will miss the kids. I wish I could give them more to make sure they can succeed in life...it's frustrating to see such smart kids be held back by their place in life. But Diego read his homework to me on the last day and it was both frustrating and extremely rewarding....he couldn't even identify letters and refused to try to learn them for the whole year, and then all of a sudden he's determined to sound out words and he knows his letters like a pro. Was he holding out on us the whole time? Maybe. But I'm so glad that he's made that improvement...his situation this year really opened my eyes to the importance of literacy in the world. Not that it wasn't clear before, but seeing a mostly illiterate child struggle in front of you really emphasizes how important being able to read and communicate is in the world. I'm glad he's on the way to getting the skill...it puts him at a higher level of success than his mom is now, and this boy is only in 2nd grade. He'll have so many more opportunities now, he just needs to apply his skills correctly. I really hope that all of them succeed.Friday night a bunch of us ventured out to Michelle's house in Great Falls to have a hot-tub/relaxation adventure. Me, Claire, Michelle, Sarah, Brian, and Aaron went, and it was good times. Her brother is RIDICULOUS, and was quite entertaining until he began trying to light his farts on fire RIGHT NEXT TO MY BED........at 5 AM!!! Craziness. I had to leave early the next day to get work done, and I was semi-successful. Visited Claire at work on Saturday night and we watched "North by Northwest", which I had never seen and I thought it was awesome. I love Hitchcock, and Carey Grant. Thanks to Ms. Mac I constantly analyze films while I watch them, and symbolism in camera technique and whatnot is no longer a subtlety in films. But it's fun feel like you can kinda get inside the director's head. I enjoyed it.Now I must write my english paper, and then go to the International Politics review session at 7, and then play with Rahulio at 8!!! I'm so excited!!ps *tap*tap*tap* 7 days to go!
