Crap!

So not so very long ago I used to work the Columbia Diggins. I pretty much stopped going when I started working PEERS because of the conflicting ball/verse driving 2 hours away. But today one of the ladies I used to work with (I guess you could call her my director, but the Diggins doesn't have directors like Dickens does) called my mom and asked if I could work the Diggins this year. Crap.I have Valhalla that weeked! :(. While Valhalla isn't set in stone I was looking forward to it, but at the same time I've been somewhat pining for the Diggins. I could do Saturday and then when it closes drive the 3 hours to Valhalla for Sunday. It's insane, but doable. So now I'm all conflicted and don't know which to choose. I love working with Maria (the aforementioned lady) and totally miss the Diggins but I have said I'm going to Valhalla, and I've been looking forward to it. Grrr.Any suggestions?Edit: I totally should have mentioned this: yes I know that Valhalla is two weekends and my first reaction was "I'll just go to the second weekend", but ixnay on that. I'm playing Scarlett O'Hara at PEERS the next Saturday and have my AWESOME country concert on Sunday. So that doesn't work :(.

Anyone out there a closet Country fan? Kenny Chesney's concert Poets and Pirates is coming to SF on June 8th. Also playing are Brooks and Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Garey Allen *drool*, and Luke Bryan.I doubt anyone would want to come with me - but I'm just putting it out there.

The Chicago Ball for PEERS is coming up in May and I haven't really thought about it cause I look terrible in 1920's fashions. Mostly because I am hourglass figured which doesn't work at all with the 1920's look. However, when I got to Duckie's house today she had some articles of clothing on a chair for me to try on. One of them was a flesh (At least my flesh tone) colored dress with lots of beading. Since it has so much beading it would be a pain to alter to fit snuggly, so it'll just work as a vaguely 1920's dress. Yay for new (to me) dress!

Drafting!

With Laurie's help I just drafted my first pattern! Whee! It's scary cause I'm not 100% sure it is going to work, but I think and hope it will. As much as Laurie wants me to post pictures, I doubt those will come. Mostly because I'm insecure about my sewing/(and really insecure about my drafting abilities). So if this fails I don't want there to be any picture evidence. Muhaha. For those of you who care - the pattern is for a bodice of a Regency gown. It's one of the more simpler things to draft so I think I picked a good project to try drafting for the first time. Here's hoping it works!

Advice Needed

I bought 10 yards of black silk taffeta for my Scarlett O'Hara mourning dress for the PEERS ball in June. Now I'm debating on how to make it. I could make the dress in the movie (which is vaguely period, it just has the sleeves set like modern sleeves) or make a very close match only making it actually period correct. Thoughts?

Birthday

The day started of awesomely. Liz, the best roommate evar, got up at the asscrack of dawn to decorate our living room and get me a piece of chocolate cake from (Im guessing here) Safeway. It was very weird to wake up to balloons and bits of curled ribbon everywhere, but the cake was yummy for breakfast. After that I went to my classes and then went home for the day. At that point the day just kinda went downhill. Lisa for some unknown reason didn't leave Sacramento until 5 so she didntget to our house until after 7. That didn't leave much time for eating dinner, which consisted of our favorite dishes, mine was acorn squash baked with butter, cinnamon, and brandy and Lisa's was Tuna Noodle, yeah don't ask. And it didn't leave much time for opening of presents - so I literally ripped them open said thank you and ran out the door to get to FNW.FNW was fun, and I even got a thank you on Tribe for playing Country music. Yay! However, I played aBirthday Waltz and I wasn't happy that the people didn't understand that ONLY the Birthday kids get to waltz *grrsniffle*. Anywho, I got lots of flowers from Sam, which are now drying, a stolen bowl from King's College in England and the giver shall remain anonymous, homemade truffles from Will *squee*, and a CD of pictures from Patrick White. As a side note, my parents got me a book entitled "60 Civil War Era Fashion Plates", an awesome garish (in a totally good way, and it reminds me of Quinby) purse, and a Winnie the Pooh blanket. Lisa gave me a pair of homemade socks which she made over the summer. I didnt go to fair on Saturday, too much stress from a really obnoxious week. I got to my grandfathers house and helped him finalized getting ready and with the help of his care giver, got him into my car and drove to my house in WC to my birthday party. Hilarity ensued at dinner when a food fight with peas and corn broke out. It started at the kids table (as it normally does) and then for giggles we smacked my dad in the head with some peas. He, according to him didnt join in, but retaliated. Soon pretty much every adult male at the adult table joined in. My dad, and my uncle (my moms younger brother) made the tactical error of hitting my mom, which killed the food fight. After that we opened presents I made $230 for the Rene-Needs-Money-Because-She-Doesnt-Know-Where-Her-Money-Goes Fund, but really I do, it goes to gas, food, fabric, and dancing.Sunday I went to fair, and had a good time. Sam paid for a hot coco from Gaylords in the morning and paid for my hair to be done. We had a window from 5-6, he wore a corset over his military vest and I wore my now far too small military corset. If it didnt cost some where between $800-$900 for a new one, Id get a new one. Some pictures are up on Tribe. During our window (which I kill him :P) he had a hat box delivered inside of it was the most beautiful thing Id ever seen (well, besides from my Faberge Egg I got when I turned 16) a vintage womans Victorian riding hat. OMG. Its SOOO pretty. * Drool*. It is in wonderful condition, if I ever make an outfit to go with it (maybe my black and white striped bustle?) Ill work up the courage to wear it out and about. I couldnt bear it if the hat got hurt : (.

Every year in school, it seemed, we had to write out what we were thankful for. So in continuing that tradition, here are the things that I'm thankful for:1. I'm first and foremost thankful for my family. We have our arguments and our rough spots, but I wouldn't change my family for the world.2. It may be shallow, but I am honestly thankful that my family is well off. I did competitive cheerleading for 4 years and Teen-movie cheerleading for a year. I played soccer for a about a month, and my parents never said "You have to play the whole season because we just bought you everything." It was "oh, ok, at least you tried it out." I did make the team btw. I'm thankful that my parents can afford to buy me things that I don't really need - like my dress from Vampyre Ball - because my dad likes to make sure we're happy.3. I'm happy for my friends. Most importantly the ones who are willing to pick up the pieces when things fall apart. My most recent falling apart was right after moved out, Sam picked up those pieces. Thank you.4. I'm thankful that my mom knows how to sew so I have a free, very good instructor at my disposal. It also means I have someone who bales me out of sewing predicaments. We may not always get along when she's teaching me new skills, but I do appreciate that she takes time out of her day to help me. She also makes me the prettiest things.5. I'm thankful that I don't have learning disabilities or serious health issues. I'm thankful (really very thankful) that I have all my limbs and appendages.

Dickens starts next weekend, but really, since I have to be in costume for about 8 hours a day starting tomorrow, Dickens starts tomorrow for me :).I'm offically on Thanksgiving break now, and am just waiting for my chiropractor appointment. After that I'm going home to switch cars, because Sam is insane and wants to bring some trunks to fair. Tomorrow I'll be in Union Square from 10am-1pm passing out free admission tickets for the 1st and 2nd weekend of fair. The tickets are rather confusing, because 7/8ths of the ticket are the raffle thingie for a five night stay for two in (real) London. Tomorrow night I'll be performing with Dark Garden in Dark Kabaret! *Squee* I really like performing with Autumn and am very honored that she asked me back after performing with her at last year's Gorey Ball.Sunday I'll be at workshops from 10am-1pm and then I'm off again to pass out more confusing tickets.Monday I get my hair cut with Jane *whee, happy* and then go to a Dentist's appointment *not so happy*. But most importantly, I get to sleep in!Wednesday I'm getting contacts fitted to mah eyeballs.Other than that the week is devoted to sleeping in and sewing random stuff. I got blue fabric for some new unders and I have a bustle dress I'm making just for the hell of it :). Four weeks and then I get a month off! Sweet!
